Policy and the Space, the Impact of Advocacy on Children’s Learning Environments

Oh July 9, 2025 we joined expert designers, authors and ECE advocates, Michelle Pratt from New Shoots, New Zealand, and Lukas Ritson, from Wearthy, Australia for a conversation on how early childhood education (ECE) policies in New Zealand impact the design of schools and emphasize a child’s right to access quality outdoor spaces. Michelle, Lukas, and other members of the World Forum Working Group, Global Collaborative OnDesign for Children shared insight into the interplay between policy, advocacy, and design and how New Zealand’s ECE framework promotes the design of spaces that nurture children’s curiosity, resilience, and connection to nature. Watch for OnDesign in future Cafés, and in presentations and events connected with the 2026 World Forum on Early Care and Education in Malaysia.

People who commit their lives to young children and their families have powerful stories to tell and we can find our own hope and inspiration as we listen.  WoFo Global Café is the space where people gather to share their stories.  Stop by for tea and find affirmation and companionship.
