Meet Women Working in ECD Programs and Living in Refugee Status in South Africa

On October 11, 2023 we heard the stories of ECE practitioners who are currently living as refugees (mothers, ECD practitioners, breadwinners) in South Africa. We had the opportunity to learn about the dreams and challenges of these women who have been forced to leave their homes and the reasons they chose South Africa to create a new life for themselves, their children and families.

Patsy Pillay, SA WF National Representative, Director, New Beginnings Training & Development Organisation, and leading advocate for early childhood development,  brought together an amazing group of women for all of us to meet:
  • Mpoyo Ngoie from the Congo
  • Pamela Chimba from Zimbabwe
  • Nelly Illunga Mwilambwe from the Congo
  • Kalonda Etombo from the Congo
  • Bajikila Mado Ndelela from the Congo
  • Esther Mwepu from the Congo

People who commit their lives to young children and their families have powerful stories to tell and we can find our own hope and inspiration as we listen.  WoFo Global Café is the space where people gather to share their stories.  Stop by for tea and find affirmation and companionship.
